140 recipes from a handwritten cookbook Ayre began at 120 Military Road in 1917 — out-of-the-ordinary dishes and frugal-leftover practices from early-twentieth-century St. John's. Compiled and adapted for publication by Roger Pickavance and Ayre's granddaughter Agnes Marion Murphy, who reworked some recipes, filled in blanks, and offered ingredient substitutions.
