House of Anansi Press was founded in 1967 by writers Dennis Lee and Dave Godfrey to publish work by Canadian writers; the press is named for the West-African spider god Kwaku Anansi. Now under the ownership of Scott Griffin, Anansi describes itself as Canada's leading independent publisher and continues to publish poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama, lifestyle, French-Canadian writers in translation, and authors from around the world. The press takes pride in finding and developing talent and on publishing Indigenous, Black, and other deserving writers, and helps shape national conversation through its publication of the annual CBC Massey Lectures. House of Anansi is based at 128 Sterling Road in Toronto. Source: House of Anansi About page. source
