Thomas Allen Publishers was the trade-publishing arm of Thomas Allen & Son, a Toronto-based company that began in 1888 as a Methodist Bookroom and Publishing House warehouse. The publishing program was re-established in 2000 under founding editor Patrick Crean, returning to the company's 1916 mandate to publish books of distinction and merit, and earned Scotiabank Giller Prize wins in 2002 and 2011 (Austin Clarke's *The Polished Hoe* and Esi Edugyan's *Half-Blood Blues*).
